2026 Tours based out of Omaha, NE

"Tornado Season" in the United States begins in the south in April and moves north through July. We looked at "Average Annual Number of Tornado" maps to decide where to best start our tornado chase tours. Looking at these maps, and the cities within them, we decided Omaha, NE to be the best central city for these tours. Omaha, NE is located at the intersection of major Interstates, so we can easily get anywhere we need to reach a promising target area.

How we pick our base cities:

Websites We Use
Storm Prediction Center: We focus on the Severe Weather Outlooks.
Pivotal Weather: We look at various long and short term weather models.

College of DuPage: We look at current satellite and various weather models.

Weather Tips

Tornado Alley moves through the year. We compiled a video showing where tornadoes are most likely to happen each month.

Twisted Sky Tours understands the importance of severe weather education to the public. We incorporate learning into each of our tours. Our goal is not only to provide our guests with a fun adventure, we also want each guest to have a new appreciation for, and a better understanding of, severe weather.

Frequently Asked Questions

Here are answers to some common questions about our storm chasing tours:

What's included in my tour?

Your tour package covers all hotel nights from your arrival day through the morning of your departure. It also includes any activities we do on down days. You'll have your own private hotel room each night unless you specifically book with a roommate. Plus, you'll get daily weather briefings and on-the-road updates from our expert guides.

What should I pack?

Luggage space is limited, so we ask guests to bring one small suitcase. You can also have a small bag or backpack with you in your seat. Be prepared for all kinds of weather – evenings can get chilly, so pack a light jacket!

What am I responsible for during the tour?

Guests are responsible for their travel to and from the base city, as well as all meals while on tour.

What kind of hotels do you use?

We strive to provide a safe, comfortable, and relaxing experience. We do our best to book above-average hotels such as Best Western Plus, Comfort Suites, and Holiday Inn.

Will I always see a tornado on a tour?

While our primary goal is to get you to see a tornado, weather can be unpredictable. We have successfully positioned every tour on a tornado-warned storm. The sky's exact actions can vary, but regardless of whether we witness a tornado, you'll gain an in-depth understanding of how environmental ingredients come together (or don't) to create severe weather.
